Who is our service for?
We give support to people with the following eating disorders: anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder, and eating disorders not otherwise specified. Click here to read definitions of these eating disorders.
The service is for 8 years and up with an eating disorder.
How do we help?
When someone is referred to us, we meet with them to see if we can be of help. If we can help, we will work with the person on a recovery programme. The recovery programme is designed with three aims in mind: we hope to reduce eating disorder symptoms, help with physical recovery, and encourage psychological change.
Our range of staff helps us to achieve these aims. Working in our team we have a dietitian, mental health nurse, occupational therapist, STR worker, and psychologist. We can give support in one-to-one sessions, group sessions, or both, depending on someone’s need. Support includes psychological approaches like psycho-education and cognitive behavioural therapy. We also provide practical and creative activities for someone to get involved in.
How long the recovery programme lasts depends on the complexity of the eating disorder.
We also work with carers and health and community organisations to help people learn more about eating disorders.
Who can refer into our service?
Our referrals usually come from GPs and other primary care sources. Someone who has not used the service before must first be referred through one of the Trust’s CPNs or generic mental health teams. Someone who has used our service before can be referred directly to us by completing the services document referral form.
What happens in an emergency?
If there is an emergency during working hours on a weekday then someone in our team can take care of the emergency. Our working hours are 9am to 5pm. On weekends and 5pm to 9am, our Crisis Resolution and Home Treatment Team can give emergency help where it is needed.
What about carers and families?
We try to involve carers and families as much as we can. Carers and families can help us make care plans, and can also be a part of the care plan. We also try to help families and carers learn more about eating disorders.
How do you reach us?
We work Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.
