Who is our service for?
People over the age of 18 years old who have been admitted to Accident & Emergency, acute and rehabilitation wards within New Cross and West Park Hospitals.
How do we help?
When people with mental health problems are admitted to general hospitals the Liaison Service provides assessment, treatment, support and advice relating to their mental health needs. We respond to routine referrals within 2 working days.
As well as working directly with patients the Liaison Team also offers educational support relating to mental health topics to nursing and medical colleagues in the form of one-to-one sessions, seminars and training sessions.
Who can refer into our service?
Referrals to the service are accepted from the treating medical teams at New Cross Hospital and West Park Hospital.
What happens in an emergency?
Between the hours of 8am and 10pm we endevour to respond to referrals from the emergency department within 60 minutes. Outside of office hours staff at New Cross or West Park Hospital can contact the Referral and Assessment Service (RAS) based at Penn Hospital on 01902 445 810 for advice and support.
What about carers and families?
We try to work as much as we can with carers and families. We keep carers and families informed about their loved one's health, and we use their knowledge of the patient to help us make sure he or she is receiving support that is right for them.
How do you reach us?

The service runs Monday to Friday 8am until 10pm, excluding Bank Holidays. In our absence the Referral and Assessment Service (RAS) can be contacted for emergencies, advice and support.
