Last Friday 23rd and Saturday 24th May we officially launched The Lighthouse - Sandwell's ground breaking new dementia resource hub.
The official opening events were a great success showcasing The Lighthouse in all its glory. On the Friday a special guest, Tony 'Bomber' Brown, former West Bromwich Albion and England football star helped with the opening whilst on the Saturday guests were treated to traditional Indian dance in the garden. The party atmosphere continued into the new community hub where people were allowed to tour all of the facilities, speaking to staff and getting involved in some of the therapy activities that will be taking place.
The Lighthouse is now open as a community resource that offers support and guidance to people affected by dementia, their families, friends and carers. It is open seven days a week from 8.30am to 7.00pm and incorporates a cafe, a hairdressers, a living well with dementia demonstration area, a social/cinema room and a cultural library with Mylife software - helping people to document their personal life stories. The Lighthouse also has a mindful gifts area showcasing a range of gifts and activities suitable for people with dementia. These gifts can be purchased at the Lighthouse or ordered online by visiting the Mindful Gifts website here.
Each area is a dementia friendly environment that offers support and guidance to people affected by dementia to help them live well and longer at home. Why not drop in and take a look for yourself!
