Sun Shines on City Show

Despite all the forecasts of heavy rain and fears of muddy fields and cancelled activities this year’s Wolverhampton City Show took place in near perfect sunshine last weekend. Our own substance misuse team took part by having a stall in the Health and Wellbeing tent attracting a lot of attention with their ‘virtual babies’ that simulate drug withdrawal and Alcohol Foetal Syndrome along with allowing visitors to try having a go on their mini radio controlled car whilst wearing beer goggles (which unfortunately crashed and was beyond repair by mid afternoon on the Sunday).

Plenty of discussions, awareness raising and information leaflets were given out along with the usual freebies and visitors to the stall were also encouraged to sign up as members to our organisation.

The stall was run in partnership with the independent Service User Involvement Team who were running a competition to win a kindle which anyone can enter by going to their website and searching for the picture of a kindle and clicking on it.

Next up for the Substance Misuse Team will be Wolverhampton’s very first Gay Pride event taking place in the City Centre on Sunday 29th July.
