Safeguarding Children

The Government's aim is for every child, whatever their background or their circumstances, to have the support they need to:

  • Be healthy
  • Stay safe
  • Enjoy and achieve
  • Make a positive contribution
  • Achieve economic well-being

Safeguarding children from abuse and neglect is a vital part of ensuring children lead healthy and happy lives. To guard children against abuse and neglect, all the organisations involved with children – from hospitals and schools, to police and voluntary groups – need to work together. Sandwell Local Safeguarding Children Board ensure that all organisations that work with children co-operate to keep children and young people safe from harm.

Our representative on the board is:

  • Sue Marshall - Associate Director of Care Governance

Our Role

We at Sandwell Mental Health and Social Care NHS Foundation Trust take our safeguarding responsibilities very seriously. As mentioned above, we work closely with other agencies within Sandwell and the Black Country to ensure a seamless, co-ordinated approach to both children in our care and to the children of adults in our care.

We are currently working towards Care Quality Commission (CQC) registration for safeguarding children. In preparation for the CQC registration we, as an NHS Foundation Trust, are required to assess our own position against a set of minimum requirements.
